The Jaime Planas Foundation was created with the desire to give something back to society in recognition of what both Dr Jaime Planas and Clínica Planas had received from it. Over the years, that commitment has taken shape through a number of charitable initiatives. These include Project Atenea, supporting breast reconstruction for women affected by breast cancer; Project Africa, providing reconstructive surgery through medical missions; and the Lymphoedema Project, helping people without sufficient financial resources gain access to treatment.

Different initiatives with the same purpose: putting medical knowledge and surgery at the service of those who need it most.

Manifesto
Why do we exist?
The answer seems obvious. To treat patients. But it is not enough. Because a patient can be treated by one great professional. Our house has a far more powerful reason. That the patient receives the best possible care regardless of who attends them.
Our clinic is a place where knowledge circulates so freely that any professional can keep growing. Because when knowledge stops moving, medicine stops advancing.
And when medicine stops advancing, the patient stops being at the centre, however much everyone says otherwise. Our house is not built around talent. It is built around learning. It does not matter who discovers a technique. What matters is that nobody has to discover it again from scratch.
It does not matter who solves a problem. What matters is that the solution becomes part of the collective intelligence of the organisation.
Our reason for existing is to keep knowledge from being lost.
That is our true heritage. Not a building in Barcelona. Not a brand.
We are knowledge that improves every time it changes hands. We work for people we have not met yet. For professionals who have not been born yet. And for patients who will never know who made the decisions that ended up improving their lives.
That is the quiet work of our house. Building continuity. Because surgery may last six hours. A consultation, thirty minutes. Our way of understanding medicine, more than half a century.
